What Cozi's Free Plan Actually Includes in 2026
If you search for this, you will find a lot of posts saying Cozi removed its free tier, most of them dated 2026, most of them written by companies that sell a competing calendar. Including, for the avoidance of doubt, us.
So here is the careful version, with sources you can open yourself.
Cozi is still free. There is a free plan, it has a shared calendar, shopping lists, to-do lists and a recipe box, and it works on any device. What changed — and it changed in 2024, not 2026 — is how much of the calendar you can see without paying.
Cozi now has three tiers, not two
This is the first thing most write-ups get wrong, because they were written when there were two.
As of today, Cozi's own comparison page lists Free, Cozi Gold at $39 a year, and Cozi Max at $79 a year.
Free gives every family member the shared calendar, to-do and shopping lists, and the recipe library, on any device.
Gold adds eight things: month view on mobile, no ads, calendar search, up to three reminders per event instead of one, calendar change notifications, a birthday tracker, Shopping Mode, and priority support.
Max is Gold plus three AI features — AI event import, an AI recipe creator, and an AI meal planner.
One note on price: Cozi's US site says $39 a year for Gold, and one subscription covers the whole family. The US App Store shows several different in-app prices for Gold, which are most likely regional and older grandfathered rates. Check what your own store shows before budgeting.
The 30-day limit, and where it is actually written
Here is the part worth knowing, and it is genuinely odd.
The complaint you will see everywhere is that free Cozi only lets you see about 30 days ahead. Cozi's own pricing and comparison pages do not mention any such limit. The only view restriction they name is "month view on mobile", sold as a Gold feature.
Where the limit is stated is the Google Play store listing, which lists among Gold's benefits the ability to "add, edit and view events more than 30 days ahead."
So the cap appears to be real and Cozi describes it — in its app store listing, not on the pricing page a person would actually read before deciding. That is the story here, and it is more useful than "Cozi went paid".
There is a complication, and it deserves airing. In late August 2026 a Google Play reviewer complained that the calendar layout was locked behind premium, and Cozi replied publicly the next day: to see a full month view in the free version, tap the month name at the top of the calendar screen. That sits awkwardly beside "month view on mobile" being sold as a Gold feature, and it suggests the free experience is less locked-down than the loudest posts claim.
If you are deciding right now, install it and look. That is a five-minute question and we would rather you answered it than took our word for it.
What actually changed, and when
The timeline matters, because a lot of 2026 posts have quietly re-dated a 2024 event.
Between 15 and 24 May 2024, a tight cluster of Trustpilot reviewers described the same thing in almost the same words. "Only include access to the next 30 days calendar." "Can't add or view any of my entries past next 30 days." "Suddenly changed to paid calendar, without any notice." "Switched to a paid model with no notice." Seven separate named accounts inside ten days, all describing one change.
We could not find any Cozi announcement, press release, blog post or news story about it — in 2024, 2025 or 2026. So the accurate claim is not "Cozi announced a change". It is users reported a change, and Cozi does not appear to have announced it. That absence of notice is most of what made people angry.
A word about the reviews
It would be easy to end that section with "and Cozi's reviews are terrible". It would also be misleading, so here is the whole picture.
Trustpilot holds about 14 reviews of Cozi, averaging around 2.1 out of 5. Fourteen. That is a self-selected complaint pool and it tells you nothing about general satisfaction. Meanwhile the App Store shows roughly 4.8 out of 5 across about 397,000 ratings, and Google Play about 4.7 across 119,000. The app is actively maintained, with releases in August 2026.
Cozi is a well-liked product with a pricing decision some of its long-time users resented. Both halves of that are true and you should weigh both.
So is free Cozi enough for your family?
Free works if your household plans in the short term. Weekly shopping, this week's fixtures, tonight's dinner. Ads are part of the deal — "no ads" is a paid feature.
Free will frustrate you if you plan a school year in advance, if you want more than one reminder on an event, if you need to search the calendar, or if a 30-day horizon means you cannot see the collision coming. That last one is the real cost, and it is not obvious until the month you needed to book leave and could not see the holiday.
Paying $39 solves all of it inside Cozi, and for a lot of families that is simply the right answer. If it is, pay it and stop reading blog posts about alternatives.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cozi still free in 2026?
Yes. There is a free plan with a shared calendar, shopping and to-do lists and a recipe box. What is limited on free is how far ahead you can add and view events, month view on mobile, calendar search, reminders beyond one per event, and an ad-free experience.
When did Cozi change its free plan?
The user reports cluster in May 2024, not 2026. We found no announcement from Cozi at any point, which is why the change surprised people. Posts dated 2026 claiming a fresh paywall are re-dating a two-year-old change.
Is Cozi Gold worth $39?
If your family plans further than a month ahead, probably yes — it is one subscription for everyone and it removes the limit that causes most of the complaints. If you only ever use this week, free is genuinely fine.
