The Cozi 30-Day Calendar Limit, Explained

Ammar Khatib ·

If you use free Cozi and have ever tried to put something in for next term, you will have met this. And if you then went looking for an explanation, you will have found a dozen blog posts asserting it and not one of them saying where it is written down.

So here is where it is written down, and it is stranger than you would expect.

Where the limit is actually documented

Not on Cozi's website. We read the compare-plans page, the Cozi Gold page and the FAQ. The only view restriction any of them names is "month view on mobile", sold as a Gold feature. There is no mention of a 30-day cap on adding or viewing events anywhere on cozi.com.

It is in the Google Play store listing. Among the Gold benefits, the listing names the ability to add, edit and view events more than 30 days ahead.

That is the whole finding: the cap is real and Cozi describes it, but in the app store listing rather than on the pricing page a person reads before deciding. Worth knowing, and worth checking yourself rather than believing any blog — including this one.

One complication, and it is recent

In late August 2026 a Google Play reviewer complained that the calendar layout was locked behind premium. Cozi replied publicly the next day, saying that to see a full month view in the free version you tap the month name at the top of the calendar screen.

That sits awkwardly beside "month view on mobile" being sold as a paid feature, and it suggests the free experience is less locked down than the loudest posts claim. Whether the 30-day add-and-view cap and the month view are the same restriction or two different ones is not something either source makes clear.

Install it and look. It is five minutes and it beats everyone's opinion.

What the limit blocks in practice

Assuming it applies to you, the cap bites in specific and annoying ways.

The school year. Term dates, holidays and INSET days are published months ahead. That is exactly the information you want in a calendar and exactly what a 30-day horizon cannot hold.

Booking anything. Flights, appointments, a weekend away. The events that most need writing down are the ones furthest out.

Seeing a collision coming. The whole value of a shared family calendar is noticing in March that both parents are away the same week in May. A 30-day window cannot show you that, which means the calendar stops doing the one job that justifies a shared calendar at all.

Birthdays and annual things. These live a year out by definition.

Three ways around it that cost nothing

1. Use the web. Several of the free tier's restrictions are described as mobile restrictions. my.cozi.com on a computer is worth trying before you conclude anything is impossible.

2. Keep far-future dates somewhere else. A second calendar — the one already on your phone — for term dates and anything more than a month out. It is ugly, it means two places, and it works.

3. Take the feed out. Cozi publishes a read-only iCal URL you can subscribe to from another calendar. Whether that feed carries events beyond the 30-day window on a free account is the one thing we could not confirm, and it is the question that decides how useful this workaround is.

When paying is simply the better answer

If your family plans further ahead than a month — and most families with school-age children do — then this limit will keep hurting, and $39 a year for Cozi Gold removes it along with the ads, calendar search and extra reminders. One subscription covers the whole family.

That is genuinely good value for a household already using and liking Cozi. Switching apps costs a family more than $39 in effort and disruption, and it is worth being honest about that rather than pretending every limitation is a reason to leave.

The case for leaving is different: you want something the app does not do at all, or you do not want an ad-supported app holding your children's schedule. Not being able to see August in March is a reason to pay, not a reason to move.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see next year's events on free Cozi?

The Google Play listing puts adding, editing and viewing events more than 30 days ahead behind Cozi Gold. Cozi's own website does not document this, and Cozi's support has said free users can reach a month view by tapping the month name — so test it on your own account before you conclude anything.

Does the limit apply to birthdays?

Birthdays are a year out by nature, so anything that caps the horizon affects them. Cozi also sells a birthday tracker as a Gold feature, which suggests the free tier handles them differently.

Is there a free family app without this limit?

Yes, several — including ours, which is not a neutral thing for us to say. What matters more than the brand is checking before you commit: add an event six months out on day one, and see what happens.
